MESSENGER PUBLIC LIBRARY OF NORTH AURORA ANNOUNCES 2010 – “THE YEAR OF THE WRITER”

Messenger Public Library of North Aurora has designated 2010 The Year of the Writer. Adult Services Librarian, Janan Hudek Foster came up with the concept a few months ago. “We have a Memoir Writers’ Group that is growing by leaps and bounds, and many patrons have requested that we start a general writers’ group here at the library,” said Foster. “Our programming throughout 2010 will include writing and writer- related events and we’re particularly excited to announce our first ever Writer in Residence, Travis Thrasher. We’re proud to say he lives right here in North Aurora.”

Thrasher has twelve published novels to his credit and is currently working on a series for young adults. “Travis has developed considerably as a writer and he is always well-received when we have him present writers’ workshops here at the Library,” Foster continued. “He’ll be appearing at our Memoir Writers’ Group from time to time, as well as our general Writers’ Group, that will have its first meeting on January 28, 2010.” Programs will include visits by other area poets, playwrights and writers, plus a talk and book signing when Travis Thrasher’s latest book is published. On Messenger Library’s website, Thrasher will answer questions about writing and publishing.

“We think 2010 will be an exciting year here at the Library,” Foster said. “With the popularity of journaling and recent blockbuster series like Harry Potter and Twilight, writing has become something that many people do, or would like to. The upcoming year here at Messenger Library will be dedicated to nurturing the writing spirit.”
